Stephen M. Brammer

ImageStephen M. Brammer, 61, died November 3, 2009 at his home in Yuba City, CA. Born in Alliance, Nebraska, he came to California in 1966 and has been a Yuba Sutter resident since 1984. He was the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation.

He began his employment with the YSEDC 11 years ago as their Loan Administrator. He was a member of the Boards of Directors for the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation, Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce, California Innovation Center, Inc., International Credit Association, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Sacramento, Credit Grantors of the Sacramento Valley, the Sacramento YMCA and he was past Chairman of the Yuba City Planning Commission.

Additionally, he was a member of Enterprise Lodge No. 70 - Free and Accepted Masons, Sacramento Scottish Rite, Sacramento Valley Shrine Club, Ben-Ali Shrine Club, Californians for Nebraska and was an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and in Korea during the USS Pueblo incident. He was a life member of Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 705 in Yuba City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald N. Brammer of Grand Island, NE. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Janet Jo Brammer of Yuba City, CA; three daughters: Lorie (Gary) A. Birch of Browns Valley, Krista (Brad) K. Minton of Yuba City and Carrie L. Brammer of Sacramento; his mother, Joyce E. Brammer of Grand Island, NE; a brother, Mark (Debbie) W. Brammer of Grand Island, NE; a sister, Lois (Ray) E. Mueller of Blair, NE; five of the most beloved grandchildren ever (Aaron, Logan, Madeline, Kaylee and Emilee) and many nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to the Shrine Hospital for Children, Sacramento.

A Service will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, Inc. 817 Almond St., Yuba City on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 11:00 am.

LEGION PARTICIPATES IN GOLD STAR PRESENTATION

Sutter Post 705 of The American Legion was proud to participate in the presentation of two "Gold Star" banners and lapel pins to the families of Jonathan Balkowitsch and Blake Atherton, men who have given thier all in service to their country during a time of war.

The Post presented the colors and Commander Jordan offered resolutions and lapel pins to both families on behalf of the members of Sutter Post 705 and The American Legion.

This event was hosted by the local Chapter of Blue Star Moms and was held at their meeting room on Bogue Rd. in south Yuba City last Wednesday evening.  Attending on behalf of The American Legion were Steve Brammer, Bill Burke, Bill Duncan, Patrick Geronimi, Steve Jordan and Jim Sharp.  There are a few photographs of the event in the gallary feature of the website.

FLAG RETIREMENT AT NUESTRO SCHOOL

Post Commander Steve Jordan was joined by post members Steve Brammer, Kieth Churchill, James Jurkiewicz and Jim Sharp for a ceremonial flag disposal held at Nuestro School at 7:50 a.m. Friday morning, September 18, 2009.

Post members raised a new flag which had previosly flown over the nation's capitol in Washington D.C. and then conducted The American Legion flag disposall ceremony for the school's old, unserviceable flag.

The ceremony was witnessed by the entire student body, parents and teachers.  "We were pleased to be able to provide an important service and at the same time, demonstrate how a flag should be properly disposed of.  It was a very nice way for these children to learn about this process"... said Commander Jordan. 

FREEDOM WALK

Eleven members of Sutter Post No 705 participated in FREEDOM WALK ceremonies on Friday evening, September 11, 2009 at Geweke Field in Yuba City.  The Post provided a rifle squad for the gun salute, Rod Betham played the bag pipes and James Jurkiewicz played taps.  We also set up an American Legion display booth handing out patriotic stickers and flag codes to walkers. 

The event featured a presentation by Marysville Mayor Bill Harris and Yuba City Mayor Leslie McBride of a Joint Resolution from all six regional governments recognizing Blue Star Mom's for their efforts to remember the events of September 11, 2000 and all California military men and women now serving in the middle east.  Former State Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa spoke as did Col Sarah Zabel, Commander of the 9th Missioin Support Group and Beale Air Force Base.  The background for the podium area included a 6 x 10 U. S. flag which was furnished by Sutter Post 705 of The American Legion

FREEDOM WALK

Tri-Counties Blue Star Moms will be hosting the 2nd annual FREEDOM WALK to commemorate the victims of 9/11 and recognize troops currently serving our country. 

This event will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Larry Geweke Field in Yuba City.  The field will open at 5:00 P.M. with ceremonies to begin at 6:00 P.M.  Attendees may participate in a two mile walk following the ceremonies if they choose. 

Sutter Post 705 of The American Legion will have a display booth at the event.  Roderick Betham will play Amazing Grace on his bag pipes and the Post will provide a gun salute and Taps to close the ceremony.  All members are encouraged to attend and participate in this event.
